Ultimate is a great sport for kids.  It is:
  • easy to learn
  • low-cost; only a disc and a few cones are required to play
  • great aerobic exercise
  • self-officiated, so kids practice good sportsmanship and self-responsibility
  • a lot a fun!

If you're interested in Ultimate, but uncertain how to incorporate it into your program, BUDA’s Youth Program can help. This program was launched in 2002 to provide education, outreach, and technical expertise to make the sport of Ultimate Frisbee accessible to young players (ages 10-18).

The Youth Program’s services include:

  • High School Fall League and Travel Team In 2013 we will run this league with more sessions, more coaches, and more competition.  The purpose of this program is two-fold. First, to provide any high school player, whether new or experienced, the opportunity to play without relying on their high school team. Second, committed and superior players will have the opportunity to play on a travel squad which will compete locally in several events.

  • Programs for grades 3-8 Check out our current programs in Lexington and Newton.  BUDA has been piloting an after-school program for grades 3-8 in Lexington, MA, and is prepared to expand this program into other communities. This program works by partnering with committed parents or coaches. If you've got a handful of interested students, we can help bring this program to your town. Until then, bring your kids to Lexington to see how the program works!

  • Middle School Program Although we hope to in the future, BUDA does not presently run a formal league for middle school teams. We do, however, maintain a list of contacts to help teams schedule games. Middle School teams also can sign up for the BUDA High School League in Division 2.

  • Ultimate Teaching Clinics The BUDA Youth Program Educator, an experienced Ultimate player and instructor, provides on-site training to teach youths basic throwing skills and get them playing. Educational materials and an Ultimate Teaching Kit, with all the necessary equipment to play (including a supply of discs), are included. The BUDA Youth Program Educator is also available to schedule training for program staff interested in teaching Ultimate to their students, campers, scouts, etc.

  • High School Spring League Although the MA high school league now is run by USA Ultimate, the national umbrella Ultimate organization, BUDA still is involved! We run the end-of-season tournament, help teams find coaches, and support the boys, girls, and mixed all-star teams that travel to the Youth Club Championships (YCC) in August each year.

  • Youth Club Championships (YCC) Teams BUDA sponsors the MA boys, girls, and mixed teams that compete at this prestigious tournament every August.
